Nearly every second patient suffers from gum ailments. This can be entailed by teeth illnesses, not sticking to personal hygiene rules and different types of bad habits such as smoking, drinking a lot of alcohol and eating sweets all the time. One of the most frequent troubles the patients have is the inflammation of pus pocket on gum. This pathology has its unique ways of treatment, consequences and reasons that entailed it.
Note!Normally the gum is sticking very tight to our teeth. When you can spot a little pit between gum’s brim and the tooth, you are probably having a pocket filled with pus.
Symptoms of Pus Pocket
If the patient is used to brushing his teeth in a wrong way, he is 100% having the areas between his teeth filled with bites of food, microbes and bacteria that lead to cavity tartar emergence and provoke the inflammatory process. The symptoms of small pus pocket on gum depend on the phase of the ailment. Thus, the inflammation is almost always accompanied with the following:
- Gums bleeding. It happens not only brushing your teeth but even during eating or without any reason at all.
- Swell of the mucous tissue of the gum.
- Brushing the teeth and chewing with pain.
- Bad smell of oral cavity.
- The occurrence of tartar in oral cavity.
- Pocket pus excretion.
Curing the Disease
Typically, gingival sulcus doesn’t have to be deeper than 3 mm. If the depth is increasing, the treatment of periodontal pocket should be started immediately. There are three types of this ailment. Simple one is when the pocket is not deep at all, medium phase means that the depth is reaching a half of a centimeter and the tough one when the pocket is extremely deep (more than 7 mm). In order to avoid serious complications, the patient needs to contact a doctor as soon as possible. The doctor will prescribe the treatment and try to cure it before it turns into a chronic disease.
The first phase of having a little pus pockets on gums is seen as simple gingivitis which is not difficult to cure. What the patient needs to do is locally apply antibacterial and antiseptic solutions, use decoctions and herbal lotions. The next two stages of this illness aren’t so black and white. The curettage is needed almost in every tough case.
The usage of decoctions and random gels on their own will hardly help the patient to get better soon if he is having a severe inflammation and deep pocket. Sticking to these ways of softening the symptoms won’t make the person perfectly healthy.
What Is the Curettage?
There are several different ways of mending the pocket on gum. Curettage is one of the widespread ways if treating the last two stages of pockets with pus. Sometimes pus pocket on gum inflicts no pain to a person even if it looks terrible. But it means that you have to get an appointment with the dentist as soon as possible otherwise you are taking risk to face the strongest pain when the puss finally reaches the nerve.
Curettage is the process of cleaning the gums with special tools. During such cleaning there’s no chance for any element or organism to stay in the pocket. There are two types of curettage – surface curettage and deep one. The one on surface is carried out only when the depth of the pocket is minimal – from 2 to 4 mm. Cleaning of the pus pocket with surface curettage when it has got too large depth will lead to only temporarily softening of the symptoms. It will happen to you again sooner almost for sure. This procedure is carried out via ultra sound tools, dentist metal ones or laser machine.
Deep curettage of pus pockets is necessary when the issue is really bad. It is considered to be a fully-fledged surgery which is conducted with the help of local anesthesia. This way of curing is used when the depth of pocket is more that 7 mm. Such curettage implies that the gum will be dissected near the area between the two teeth so the surgeon can easily get the pus out of pocket. When all the pocket contents are released, the fresh sore is stitched. After that the supervision of doctor is obviously needed. Also the patient has to take care of his sore in his own and follow all the recommendations given by his dentist.
